Google completes deal with AdMob

Google has won approval for its $750 million (£520 million) acquisition of AdMob which will expand its mobile advertising services.

The Federal Trade Commission prevented Apple from acquiring the firm because it does not want to hamper competition in the mobile ad market as the Google deal creates the largest phone advertising company.

It is believed that the combination of the two companies will make Google and its Android software more enticing to advertisers that seek a wide audience and create competition for Apple’s iAd.

Omar Hamoui, founder and chief executive of AdMob, said: “We are excited to get to what’s next and to start working with Google to develop new products and services for our advertisers, developers, and publishers.

“We share a commitment to helping our customers navigate and take advantage of the mobile opportunity.”

Research firm e-marketer predicts that US spending on mobile advertising will reach $1.56 billion (£1 billion) in 2013, an increase from $593 million (£412 million) last year.

Apple launched iAd last month, allowing adverts to be placed into applications for the iPhone and iPad.
