Brits ‘planning to watch World Cup at work’

At least 54 per cent of Britons plan to watch the World Cup at work via the internet although most have not thought about the potential for their networks to be overloaded, suggests new research.

ISP Eclipse Internet, which conducted the research, revealed that 58 per cent had not considered the impact their viewing would have on their office’s network which could run slow or even crash.

Also 56 per cent had no idea if their company had guidelines regarding watching the tournament live at work.

Just over a third (37 per cent) believed it would not affect their productivity at work.

Clodagh Murphy, director of Eclipse, said: “UK workers clearly want to watch World Cup matches live on their PCs. However, we advise all businesses to be mindful about the impact this could have on their day-to-day business operations.”

The firm believes that the match between England and Slovenia on June 23rd could cause the most disruption.

On June 11th the World Cup kicks off in South Africa. England is in group C with the US, Algeria and Slovenia.
